GENERAL INFORMATION
Located in the
heart of Doha, the capital city of Qatar, HMC consists of three hospitals:
Hamad General Hospital was commissioned in 1982 and since then has
gained an International reputation as a teaching and referral center. It is
certified by the American Hospital Association and provides medical and
surgical sub-specialties to a population of more than 600,000 people. The
facility has a capacity of approximately 660 beds and utilizes the most state
of the art medical and surgical equipment to keep current with the rapid new
development in medicine.
Women's
Hospital was
commissioned in 1988; it provides medical and surgical care to the female
population. Its bed capacity is about 330 beds. It boasts a high rate in
specialized In-Vitro Fertilization and Neo-Natal care. The number of
deliveries is about 10,000 per annum and prenatal mortality rate of about 12.8
per 1000 births.
Rumailah
Hospital was
commissioned in 1956 and renovated in 1997; it houses more than 300 beds for
Geriatrics and Physical Rehabilitation Medicine patients. The grounds of the
Hospital compound also house the Burn and Plastic Unit, Dental Clinic, Special
Education School for the handicapped and developmentally disabled, TB Unit,
Dermatology and Venereology Clinic.
MEDICAL SERVICES
Hamad General Hospital: The Medical Department provides a wide range of
services in: Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology,
Haematology/Oncology, Neurology, Chest & Pulmonary Disease, Infectious
Diseases and Rheumatology, Medical ICU and a Renal Dialysis Unit. On the other
hand the Surgery Department has eight operating theatres, a recovery room and
the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). Surgical specialties include General
Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Paediatric
Surgery, Ophthalmology and ENT. The Outpatient Department consists of 52
specialty clinics and 15 sub-clinical services. Patients have to get a
referral from the Primary Health Centres or an accredited private physician
before they can get an appointment at the OPD.
Women's
Hospital: Provides
a wide range of Obstetrics and Gynaecology services, infertility treatments.
This facility also provides services for newborns at a state of the art NICU
at three levels: Intermediate, intensive and isolation.
Rumailah
Hospital:
Currently a Rehabilitation Center for physically and mentally challenged adult
and paediatric patients. But, this facility also offers a wide range of
services as: Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Dental Services, Geriatrics, TB
Treatment Unit, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation including:
Prosthetics/Orthotics, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy,
Special Education, etc. The facility also offers services at Burns Unit,
Plastic Surgery, Pharmacy, Outpatients Department, Social Services, etc.
TRANSPORTATION
Shuttle buses operate at intervals between housing and the hospital. Also,
transportation is provided to go shopping.
HOUSING
Overseas employment contracts provide a housing allowance or free
accommodations based on family, single or shared status according to salary
grade and type of contract.
The Personnel Department oversees housing requirements and maintenance as well
as travel arrangements for all staff members. Corporation offers a fully
furnished Nurses' Hostel facility for single female nurses with overseas
contracts. The hostel is located in a compound next to Hamad General Hospital
and accommodates more than 600 staff nurses. The facility includes recreation
rooms, tennis courts, swimming pool, car park, first aid clinic, free laundry
and bus shuttle service.
CONTRACT AND BENEFITS
INFORMATION
Employment contracts are open-ended and staffs is encouraged to stay as long
as they can. The standard working week is Sunday through Thursday and is 48
hour; the number of hours in a shift varies somewhat from department to
department.
There is NO INCOME TAX in the State of Qatar; therefore no taxes are deducted
from employees' paycheck.

RECREATION SERVICES FOR
EMPLOYEES

The
Cafeteria located on the ground floor of Hamad General Hospital; serves a
variety of dishes and caters to the many tastes of the different nationalities
at very reasonable prices. Hours of operation are:
Qatar National Bank
maintains a branch and an ATM machine is located in the lobby of HGH. The bank
offers various banking services to all HMC staff, visitors and patients. The
bank is open to the public for business everyday from 7:30am. - 1:15pm
including Thursdays. ATM is available 24 hours a day.
Gift Shops are located in the lobbies of all HMC hospitals. For the
convenience of patients, staff, and visitors, the shops are open daily from
6:00am to 10:00pm.
Mail is delivered twice a day to the different HMC Hospital departments,
sections, and units on the hospital floors. Outgoing internal mail is
collected twice a day and overseas mail is posted regularly.
Places of Worship are
designated on each floor of Hamad General Hospital (HGH) for Muslims to
perform prayers. Also, separate mosques are located within HGH; next to the
Women's Hospital; and Rumailah Hospital.
Staff Clinic provides outpatient services to all staff that fall sick during
working hours; Accident and Emergency services are offered 24 hours a day.
Health Science Library, open from 7:00am to 11:00pm. It is opened to all
medical personnel in the State of Qatar; the library offers a range of
materials. To name a few is Internet online service, Medline CD-ROM access to
medical articles published worldwide, video and audio medical and health
programs, the latest medical textbooks, medical and health periodicals,
magazines and references.
